Year 2 News - February

We finished our topic of The Great Fire of London which we absolutely loved learning about! We wrote some lovely poems to finish the topic off. Our poems allowed us to explore and experiment with descriptive language to engage the reader. We also enjoyed making our multi-media Great Fire of London artwork, each class did it in a slightly different way.

We loved Book Fest this year! We got to meet the author Simon Phillip. He told us all about how he became an author and read us some of his books. It was very exciting getting our own signed copy of his new book!

Year 2 have been very busy embracing our new topic of Dragons! It is allowing us to showcase our creative skills. We have been focusing on dragon eyes in particular, we have sketched them, used pastels to add colour and we will be making our own clay dragon eye.

In maths we have been looking at multiplication. We have learnt how to multiply by 2, 5 and 10. We have also started to learn about division and how to divide numbers by 2, 5 and 10.

In Literacy we looked at The Dragon with the Blazing Bottom. We predicted how we thought the story might end and wrote our own version of the ending. We also created a class potion to help the dragon breath fire including lots of hot things!

We spent Book Week looking at the book The Café on the Edge of the Woods. It allowed us to continue to develop our creative writing. We created our own menus, character descriptions and designed our own Ogres.

We have been enjoying PE this half term again! We have continued to develop our gymnastics skills. We have been transferring our sequences onto equipment and experimenting with the different levels. We have been adding in different travel and jumps.

We have also been developing our defensive skills through games.
