Year 1 News

27th January 2026

Year 1 have had a lovely few weeks back at school, learning about our new topic 'Castles, Crowns and Carriages'. We have been learning about the different parts of a castle, before designing our own castles and writing about them. We also started looking at the book 'Journey' by Aaron Becker, where we have been predicting and writing about what happens next.

In maths we have been consolidating our knowledge of the numbers 1-5, exploring these numbers using part whole models and bar models. We have also been learning about different shapes and their properties. We engaged in lots of different shape activities!

We have also spent time being 'lego builders' in computing, learning about algorithms and the importance of instructions in coding. In PE, we have been practising our gymnastic shapes and are beginning to think about creating sequences. In RHE, we thought about New Year Resolutions, as well as thinking about how we have changed since we were babies and the things we can do now that we couldn't do before!
