Art and Design Statement of Intent
“You can’t use up creativity, the more you use the more you have.” Maya Angelou
At Rose Green Infant School, we strongly value Art as an important part of our broad and balanced curriculum. We believe that Art is fundamental to children’s well-being and aim to provide rich, inspiring, and engaging first-hand Art experiences for all pupils in our school. As part of our inclusive and diverse curriculum, we want to ensure that our children are confident in all aspects of Art and gain the essential skills and confidence that they need to explore a range of media and materials. Our curriculum has been designed to stimulate children’s creativity, capture their imagination and to enable progression throughout each year group. We want all children to be responsible for their work and to take pride in the work they produce and for all children to reach their full potential within Art.
Art and Design Teaching will instil enjoyment and appreciation for the visual arts and will provide children with a range of tactile, visual and sensory experiences which will enable our children to evaluate and analyse their own work and the work of Artists using the key elements of Art to reflect. Children will develop and build up their resilience as they encounter and overcome challenges and become motivated in fulfilling their full potential. Through providing a skills-based Art curriculum, pupils will develop confidence in being independent and will be able to apply skills learnt to express themselves in a creative and imaginative manner.
